ADSL modem/router
Easynet Set-up

1. Wait for ADSL line set-up: |
Order your ADSL connection from Easynet.
Purchase suitable modem/firewall/router/LAN switch/LAN cables/line
filters etc. either from Easynet or from a computer store.
Wait for confirmation from Easynet that the ADSL line is activated.

2. Plug in the hardware: |
Connect the modem to the phone line (no line filter), to the Ethernet
port on one computer (via supplied Ethernet cable), and to mains power
via its power-pack. (If the computer does not have an Ethernet port use
USB but do not connect it to the modem yet. NetComm's modem instructions
will advise when to connect it.

3. Add phone filters: |
For every phone, fax, answering machine, around the house using the same
phone line, but not necessarily the same phone wall plug, add in an ADSL
line filter. (With normal filters, up to three maximum) This goes in the
lead from wall to phone.
In the
phone lead to the ADSL modem do not put a filter

phones, faxes etc still work |

4. Set up the computer LAN port: |

5. Configuring the modem: |
Follow NetComm instructions and use CD as specifired for either USB or
LAN Ethernet connection
Refer to
Easyent standard settings page for settings to apply. In summary they
are:
Set
encapsulation to PPPoA (or PPPoE if it does not work)
Set Multiplex to
VC
Set VPI =
8; set VCI = 35
Enter the
username in the form username@easynet.your-dsl.net;
enter password
Select 'automatic
IP' (called server assigned IP)
Click
commit
Close and
re-open Internet explorer and verify you can surf the net. (hit refresh
to be sure) |

5. Configure email: |
In Outlook or in Outlook express, click on tools/accounts/mail find the
Easynet email account and go into its properties (or edit). Change its
connection setting from dial-up to LAN. Save settings.
Change the
name of the SMTP send mail server to mail.easy.net.au
Verify
email works both sending and receiving |
