TP-Link 8840
ADSL2+
4 port modem/router
(for ethernet computer connection - not USB)
Easynet Set-up
|
|
 |
 |
|
1. Wait for ADSL line set-up: |
Order your ADSL connection from Easynet.
Purchase suitable modem/firewall/router/LAN switch/LAN cables/line
filters etc. either from Easynet or from a computer store.
(Make sure your computer has an Ethernet port. If not you need a
different modem)
Wait for confirmation from Easynet that the ADSL line is activated.
|
 |
 |
|
2. Plug in the hardware: |
Connect the modem to the phone line (no line filter, or to the port
labeled ADSL on a filter/splitter provided - the line end of this
filter/splitter goes to the phone line at the wall. The other output of
the splitter labeled phone goes to your phones, faxes and or answering
machines), to the Ethernet
port on one computer (via supplied Ethernet cable), and to mains power
via its power-pack.
Turn
on the modem, then after several seconds, turn on the computer.
The
power LED should be on and one of the four LAN LEDs should come on.
The
important light is the ADSL light. Initially it should flash, then after
a while it should stay on. This indicated the modem has recognised the
ADSL hardware at the telephone exchange (DSLAM) and has synchronised
with it (Line-sync, or Carrier-lock) What it tells you is that your
set-up at the exchange was done correctly, and your phone line is suitable for
broadband. At this point you can breath a sigh of relief |
 |
 |
|
6. Add phone filters: |
For every phone, fax, answering machine, around the house (using the same
phone line), but not necessarily the same phone wall plug, add in an ADSL
line filter. (With normal filters, up to three maximum) This goes in the
lead from wall to phone.
In the
phone lead to the ADSL modem do not put a filter (or use the
filter/splitter described above)
Verify all
phones, faxes, answering machines etc still work |
|
|
3. Set up the computer LAN port: |
In Win XP or Win 2000 (and MACs) this is fairly automatic. To check it is OK: go
into start/(settings/)control panel (classic view). Click on network
connections then right click on the Local Area connection icon and
select properties. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and make sure radio
buttons select 'Obtain an IP address automatically', and 'Obtain DNS
server address automatically'. Click OK to finish.
Use TP-Link manual for older operating systems,
or research instructions form teh net before you start the change over |
 |
 |
|
4. Configuring the modem: |
Open your web browser. Select work off line if asked. Click
tools/options/connections then turn off the dial-up option by selecting
'never dial a connection' or 'connect via LAN' or similar words in older
operating systems
If you want
to use the setup CD, load it then navigate to the folder TD 8840 copy
the appropriate TP-Link ADSL file to your desktop. Then run it. (If not
using the CD to get in manually - close then
re-open the browser and type http://192.168.1.1
in the address box and click enter)
If asked
to 'go on line' click yes
A log in
screen will appear. Go ahead and Log In. The default username is admin. The default password
is also admin

bar of this first screen, click on ' wizard set up'

then set VPI/VCI to 8 / 35
select VC/MUX
In PPP
Configuration enter the
PPP username in the form
username@easynet.your-dsl.net
enter PPP password
Click
submit, then if available click confirm to save settings
The modem
should then log you in to the net and after a minute or two the Acct light should come on.
This lets you know your username and password has been accepted and you
are logged into the net. (If it will not consistently log in and stay
logged in most of the time, check your phone wiring and filter
arrangements.
Close and
re-open Internet explorer and then verify you can surf the net.
NOTE for a small fee we can pre-configure your passwords into the modem
before we ship it to you. |
