Windows 3.1 Set-up Instructions

Windows 3.1 does not include internet software as standard. The preferred option is to use our set up CD to load the Internet software your computer needs, and then by following the instructions, have our CD automatically configure it for you. If your computer does not have a CD drive, this may be achieved by going to your local computer store and using their workshop's external CD drive that just plugs in the back of your computer. They may not even charge for using it.

The alternative is to install from floppy disk: Easynet no longer provides Internet software on floppy. If you already have internet software on floppy, insert disk 1 into your floppy drive. Run the program called "setup.exe" The program will now guide you through the installation of the program.

Setup of the program: Read the software License agreement provided by Microsoft. If you agree, click on the I Accept button at the bottom of the screen. (Otherwise click I disagree and terminate installing this software.)

Next click OK to start the installation. Choose a directory to install the software to, it's probably best to stay with the default. If at this point the installation program notifies you it has already detected a version of winsock.dll, this probably means you have already an account on an existing ISP or you have some internet dialling software on your system.

In most cases you simply Click on "Complete installation", as this will install all the required software. Choose what program group you want to locate the software in. You can if you wish rename this to eg. "Easynet" or just use the default, "Microsoft Internet Explorer".

Now the program will start to install itself onto your hard drive. If installing from floppy disks, windows will prompt you to install disk 2, 3 etc when required.

Next you will be presented with a screen asking you about your modem, in most cases just click on Next. If windows has difficulty detecting your modem, you will need to select one from a list. It will present you with a list of modems to choose from. If your modem is not there you may need to load the modem driver software following the instructions that came with the modem.

Next select your country (Australia 61). If you can't select Australia here, don't worry, this is only required if you intend to call into Easynet from overseas. Next enter 02 for your Sydney city code. Again this is only really required if you intend to call Easynet from outside the Sydney phone zone. If you normally need to enter digits to get an outside line on your telephone (e.g. an office phone), enter them in the box for outside access. Next choose pulse or tone, most users should select tone. Now your modem should be set up. Click Finish.

Windows will now place all the icons in the Windows group you selected above.

Now windows is required to set up your dialler. This is the program that calls Easynet’s server when required. Click OK to continue. Click OK again.

Dialler Setup: Click on the "Get on the Internet" icon in the Program group you set up above. Now you will be required to enter in several items of information. They are as follows:

For service name type "Easynet"

Now enter in the IP addresses for the Primary and secondary DNS server

Primary = 203.63.8.27

Secondary = 203.63.8.28

Also select Dynamic IP address "Service provider provides me with an IP address"

Your username is your login name ie joe, r2d2 etc. remember it must be lower case and does NOT include the @easy.com.au

Your password is the password you chose. This should be kept secret and remembered.

The dial in phone number is 0198307019

Next you will need to set up your access to news and mail, as follows:

The POP3 server is mail.easy.com.au

And the SMTP server name is also mail.easy.com.au

Your Username and password are as above

The Easynet News server is simply news.easy.com.au

We also recommend that you initially set your browser start up page to http://www.easy.com.au for fast access to new Easynet information and specials.  In most browsers you set it in the View, Options drop down.

That should be it, you should now be ready to go, with Easynet and your new Internet Connection software.

Running.

Simply open up the group you chose to install the ICONS into, and double click on the icon called Easynet. Alternatively click on the Internet Explorer icon to start the dialler. A window will now appear, Enter the user name and password.  Check the phone number is correct. Click "Connect". The modem then dials and connects (you may hear this through your speakers if you have them),

That's it, you are logged on and using your hours, now your able surf the net by using Internet Explorer or Mail, or other Internet software.

Don’t forget to log off your modem at the end of your session to disconnect from Easynet - by closing or exiting the dialler software.
