Changing Your Init String

The process to update your modem init string varies between Operating Systems and versions. In Windows and MacOS 7.x you can edit the string directly, but in MacOS 8.x you must generate a modem script.

Changing your Init String in Windows 95/98

The modem init string in Windows 95/98 is changed by editing the Modem Properties in Dial-Up Networking.

Double-click on "My Computer" and select "Dial-Up Networking". The Dial-Up Networking window will open, containing a few icons. Find the icon for Easynet and perform a right mouse button click on the icon. Then select "Properties".

Once you've opened Properties, click on the "Configure" button found under the "Connect using" section. The Modem Properties will appear, click on the "Connection" tab. Then click on the "Advanced" button.

From the Modem's Properties window select the "Connection" tab then click on the "Advanced" button.

Changing your Init String in MacOS with Open Transport.

Unfortunately, there is no way to manually change the init string on Macs running Open Transport. Open Transport requires a script to be generated via a 3rd party program, and then inserted into your modem scripts directory.

Our support department will be happy to help you generate a new modem script. Contact VISI.com Tech Support with a detailed description of the problem with your connection and one of our support representatives will generate a script for you.

Changing your Init String in MacOS with MacPPP

The modem init string in MacOS 7.x is updated in the ConfigPPP control panel. Click on the "Apple" menu found in the left corner of your menubar. Select "Control Panels" and then "ConfigPPP".

The ConfigPPP window will open, click on the "Config" button.

Add the modem init string in the "Modem Init" field. Click "Done" when complete.
